Transmission Lines

Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies are used to analyse fast electrical phenomena in transmission networks, such as switching events, faults, lightning surges, and equipment energisation. These detailed time-domain simulations accurately capture transient overvoltages, current surges, and system interactions that cannot be represented by conventional RMS studies.

EMT studies support the design and operation of transmission systems by assessing insulation coordination, switching overvoltages, protection performance, auto-reclosing schemes, and the integration of renewable and power-electronic-based generation. They help ensure network reliability, equipment security, and compliance with industry standards.

2

Windfarms

Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies are used to assess the dynamic performance of wind farms under fast system disturbances such as faults, switching events, and network interactions. These detailed time-domain simulations accurately model turbine converters, plant controllers, transformers, and collector networks to capture transient behaviours that cannot be represented by conventional RMS studies.

EMT studies are essential for evaluating fault ride-through capability, control interactions, harmonic performance, switching transients, and grid code compliance. They help wind farm developers and network operators ensure stable operation, reliable grid integration, and compliance with utility and regulatory requirements.

3

Solar and BESS

Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies are used to assess the dynamic performance of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and demonstrate compliance with key UK grid connection requirements, including G99, G5/5, and P28. These detailed simulations accurately represent inverter controls, plant controllers, transformers, and network interactions during faults and switching events.

EMT studies support the verification of fault ride-through capability required by G99, harmonic performance and harmonic emission limits required by G5/5, and rapid voltage change assessments in accordance with P28. They help ensure reliable grid integration, stable operation, and compliance with Distribution and Transmission Network Operator requirements.
